Abby contacted me and shared that her father, only 52, is in the final stages of the terminal disease ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), is paralyzed from the neck down and is on a ventilator (this happened to him quickly, over the span of less than 3 years). They had no family photos together and would like to capture this time together before he loses the ability to smile or succumbs to the horrible disease. My heart went out to them. They booked a portrait session and I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. What I saw was a loving family and amazing father with an incredibly positive attitude with his wife, 4 children and 2 grandchildren by his side.
(above) Abby and her dad, (below) her father’s garden.– He started it before he had ALS and worked on it often while he still had his fine motor skills. His family and friends have been doing their best to keep it going even though he is not able to care for it himself.

While he is unable to speak or type he is able to communicate by spelling different words on his special computer screen…
His 4 children and son-in law:
Debbie is an incredibly strong and beautiful woman. I admire her courage– amazing.
Trask family, you are inspiring and I am so glad that we were able to capture Paul’s smile!
