A relaxed, natural engagement session along the lake & woods with Emily & Andrew…
Emily and Andrew have busy Baltimore work schedules– Andrew is an attorney and Emily is a registered nurse. They enjoy taking a break from city life and are always up for an outdoor adventure. They enjoyed the drive to Pine Grove Forest as it wove through orchards and over rolling hills near Andrew’s alma mater, Dickinson College. He reminisced a little and shared stories from his college days with her. 🙂
Emily and Andrew are so relaxed together, there is something really effortless and organic about their compatibility, they just “fit.” Combine that with the scenic landscape and cozy wardrobe and I think you really get a feel for who these two are and what they are all about. They love the simple things in life and I think that really comes across in these photos.
I asked them how they knew they had found “the one” and what they appreciate most in each other, here are their answers:
Emily: The first time I met Andrew I said to myself, I could marry this guy! He was such a gentleman from the start, giving me his raincoat as we walked in the rain, even though his friends teased him for doing it. He was such a kind and considerate person, and he was (and is) a great dance partner too! I’ve always felt comfortable with Andrew. We’re always open and committed to each other, and I’ve known from very early on that we would make a great team throughout our lives together.
Andrew: I appreciate Emily’s intellect, sense of humor, and kindness. I think it is her warmth that sets her apart from other people and the quality that is most apparent to those who know her. I discovered that she was the one two months into dating. We were finishing dinner at the B&O in Baltimore. If I could explain it, I’d be Nicholas Sparks, but I knew that I’d have to spend my life getting to know her better, learning everything about her, and wanting to share every moment of my life with her. That night, I made the decision I was going to try to marry Emily and I slept better than I ever have. That is when I knew.
There was a sweet, simple cabin behind the lake and I was drawn to it’s classic, natural feel. I also love the light this time of year, it is a pure white and the muted color palette really draws all the attention to these two love birds 😉
Emily and Andrew playfully skipped stones in the lake together (Andrew was quite skilled, skipping them several times). There is something I really like about this image, to me it shows the balance and symmetry that exists in their relationship and the connection between them regardless of distance. They are both intelligent, busy professionals who enjoy stillness, quiet and simplicity in life…
This one might play with your mind a bit– it is actually a reflection in the pond…
They mentioned Nicolas Sparks and this moment is so soft and romantic, it could be from one of his books or movies…
I wanted to keep the photo of Emily’s diamond engagement ring with the natural feel of the engagement photography session, so I balanced it between two rustic wood boards of a picnic table, where the light would catch all the diamonds in the setting and show off it’s sparkle 😉
Emily & Andrew’s wedding will also have a simple, relaxed feel. Their reception will be held at a favorite Irish Pub which they will rent out for the evening. It is coming up soon and I can’t wait! It was such a pleasure to work with both of you thus far and I’m looking forward to your big day. 🙂
