Colorful, architecturally inspired & fun– you won’t want to miss Noah & Patchie’s engagement photos captured among these classic, DC icons (Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument). Be prepared for a giant balloon and killer sunset…
Patchie & Noah contacted me looking for vivid, crisp photography that would be creative and capture their personalities as well as the iconic DC architecture. Each of the images below shows a different aspect of who they are and what they are all about.
The image above shows this adorable couple next to the reflective pool at dusk with the Washington monument in the background, it is a classic, traditional portrait and I love the color and how the monument “pops” against the evening sky.
The image below is more creative and captures some of the unique, playful rapport that these two share as a couple. I like how golden sunlight is skimming across the marble tiles and all you can see is their shoes & shadows…
DC architecture brought Patchie and Noah together. The architectural renderings below are of the Arlington Tower Roof Terrace. Noah was involved in the project from a architectural standpoint and Patchie was involved as a building manager.
When the project was complete, at the 4th of July viewing party, Noah made up his mind to ask Patchie on their first date. Noah brought the renderings along to their engagement photo session and I thought it was the perfect place to photograph Patchie’s gorgeous engagement ring…
This couple is sweet, romantic and so much fun to be around! They are totally kids at heart, laughing, joking and up for anything. They have positive, upbeat personalities and were such a pleasure to work with.
Another way I incorporated architecture into this engagement photography session was by bringing in the interesting architectural elements around us. In the image above I played with the columns and in the image below I brought in the shadows that those columns created, all the while showing off their personalities.
These to have the brightest, most free flowing smiles– the next photo is an “out-take” I love how they are totally busting-out laughing:
Oooo lala, much more romantic 😉
Enters Patchie’s Instagram-inspired concept, “Brad the balloon,” he was a little high maintenance (getting a *gigantic* balloon around in the DC isn’t the easiset thing in the world) but really brought out that shamelessly playful side that Noah & Patchie share.
I panned my camera using a slow shutter speed to capture this image– I wanted to show the movement, excitement and high-energy of this charming couple:
Patchie and Noah wore bracelets from their Buddhist ceremony in Thailand from the previous week. Each strand represents a blessing from a family member or close friend. They wanted to display the Thai connection and spiritual aspect of their union and it was a cool juxtaposition with their iconic US surroundings…
Patchie appreciates that Noah is passionate, thoughtful and fun-loving. He writes her little love notes and cards and leaves them for her to find. They put each other first in their relationship and value each other’s opinions as highly as their own, without judgement.
Noah loves Patchie’s supportive, patient & affectionate nature and how she is eternally optimistic. She surprises him continually with her humor, intellect and perspective in life. He said, “She is five feet tall but I look up to her in everyway.”
Among all of this sweetness, something began to peek it’s way into our photos at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial, it was the soft glow of an out-of-this-world, amazing DC sunset. It started off small but became incredibly impressive in vibrancy before fading into an all-out rainbow display of color. Patchie and Noah, you two are amazing! Thanks for opening up and sharing your story with me. I am beyond excited for your Four Season’s Georgetown wedding next year! I hope these engagement photos lived up to all of your colorful, personal, emotional, creative hopes and dreams 🙂
