Amazing architecture & a deep-rooted DC couple at the Library of Congress….
Lauren & Sean contacted me looking for creative, colorful wedding and engagement photography.
They wanted a photographer who would capture intimate moments, details & architecture in a unique way. They wanted an eclectic mix of photography– timeless black and white images, colorful classic portraiture, and artistic photos that capture emotion as well as beautiful physical surroundings.
It may sound like a tall order, but these are just the sort of things that I LOVE to do! We clicked immediately.
Lauren wrote, “We were drawn to your innate creativity, use of bright colors, and ability to capture intimate moments and details. We really appreciate your strong eye for architectural design and use of lighting to add depth and perspective to your photos. Your professionalism and kind personality came through during our first consultation, and we knew right away that you would be the perfect match for our personalities and style!”
I’ll open this blog post with a classic, colorful portrait of Lauren & Sean. These two lovebirds met during their Chapel Hill internships on Capitol Hill.
They knew DC would be the perfect location for their engagement photos, because it was where they met, fell in love and the place that they now call home. They had an outdoor photo session planned, but due to inclimate weather, went with their “Plan B” and met me at the Library of Congress.
While sheltered by the iconic library for the majority of their engagement session, they also had the opportunity to hop outside for a few minutes when the weather was forgiving. There was an incredible amount of wind in the image above and rain in the image below, but they were up for anything that I suggested.
Lauren and Sean enjoy history, visiting museums and walking around the nation’s capitol together. I can’t think of a better location than the Library of Congress to tie those aspects together for them.
The architecture there is truly stunning and unique. Here they are walking hand-in-hand among the marble columns and elaborate frescos in the Great Hall. I think this photo really gives a sense of the detailing and the inspiring scale of the library, I wanted the fresco to lead your eye to Lauren & Sean…
This is one of my favorite images of this sweet couple. It is exactly the sort of timeless photograph that I was hoping to capture for these two. It is emotion-packed and you really get a sense for the intimacy and trust that they have developed over the last five years.
They look so happy and stylish, too– I’m sensing a little bit of Jackie O here, Lauren ;)…
Sean loves how Lauren cares deeply about others, she is driven & ambitious yet grounded– she never looses right of what is important in life. She is quick to laugh, encouraging & has a sense of adventure that pulls him out of his shell and takes him to amazing places. They have even been on a hot air balloon ride in Turkey!
I like this photo as it captures that sense of adventure. It offers a creative perspective & vibrant color. The mosaic pattern on the floor reminds me of something that you might see in Turkey and there is something ethereal about the movement of Lauren’s dress and hair…
Lauren shared that she loves Sean’s sense of integrity and honesty, the way he treats others with kindness and respect and how loyal and loving he is towards his friends and family.
She appreciates his ability to challenge her and help her accomplish her goals. She loves how they are able to work together. She appreciates his ability to be a shoulder to lean on & trusts him completely.
In the photo below, everything above and below the surface is exposed and for me, the result is a very intimate, authentic image.
Sean shared that Lauren makes him a better man; that together they are greater than the sum of their individual selves. You really get a sense of balance and equality in this photo in the way they are symmetrically linked here:
Lauren appreciates how Sean is constantly learning and the way he treats her with love and respect. Sean appreciates how Lauren can sometimes be clumsy and make him feel like she actually needs his help 🙂
I know you wanted a black and white image that would be romantic, timeless and classic. This one reminds me of the iconic WWII image of the sailor and nurse in Times Square.
Lauren & Sean, it was such a pleasure to meet you two at the Library of Congress for this engagement session. Thank you for being so upbeat, flexible and fun. I hope you enjoy these images. I am eagerly anticipating your upcoming DC wedding. 🙂
