The New York City skyline and a proposal in the South of France– you won’t want to miss this unbelievably romantic engagement session!!!
Here they are walking on the clouds with Manhattan in the distance…
Kristin and Brian contacted me looking for a photographer with an artistic eye. They were drawn to my eclectic portfolio and liked how I was able to capture a wide variety of images, from romantic portraits to editorial and photo-journalistic styles.
They particularly liked the way my photos capture candid moments, vibrant colors, and architecture in a creative way. I’ll open with this image that includes several of those elements. Yes, those are their shadows :).
I mentioned the proposal in the South of France, in and of itself the concept is overflowing with romance, but wait until you hear the full story…
Here Kristin holds a postcard showing the tiny seaside village of Eze (it is nearby the city of Nice). Brian had stumbled upon it accidentally at first– he visited France in 2009 and had taken the wrong bus and got lost. But out of that mistake, he found the most beautiful place he had ever seen.
To him, something (fate, luck, coincidence) had brought him there and his memory of it’s beauty, charm and warmth reminded him of Kristin. He decided to propose in Eze.
Here Kristin holds a postcard from Eze. I like seeing the French manuscript and how the blue of the Mediterranean Sea matches her dress and the tree blossoms match her manicure. You can also see her beautiful engagement ring!
Brian is a planner and loves details– he spent over a year planning for the proposal.
He bought the ring, planned the trip and even studied enough French to be able to describe his plans to secretly talk to the staff at the Chateau without giving away any surprises to Kristin.
They would fly to Paris and drive to the South of France. He wanted it to be beautiful and absolutely unforgettable and it was!
Brian mentioned he would like to go to a place for lunch in the little town of Eze– little did Kristin know that he has planned a walk into a Chateau’s terraced gardens on the way to propose.
Kristin was completely entranced by the views of the sea and it’s intense blue color, the brought colors of the flowers and manicured gardens. For a moment time stood still. She said “yes.”
They began their engagement photography session in Columbus Park because it has a romantic feeling that is similar to the gardens in France. I like how flare is creeping into this photo making it feel even more dreamy and romantic.
Kristin described Brian as a thinker who puts his whole heart into everything that he does. He is hard working, dedicated, caring and thoughtful.
He comforts her when she’s upset, makes her laugh when she is stressed, pushes her to be the best version of herself yet makes her feel incredibly safe.
Brian described Kristin as an extrovert who brings out the best in others. She has an infectious energy and is genuine, good-hearted, and loves deeply and fully.
He shared that she supports him in a way that makes him believe that they can accomplish anything together.
Choosing to spend the rest of his life with Kristin was the easiest, most natural decision he has ever made.
Kristin and Brian have lived in Hoboken for the last four years. It is where they grew their relationship and where they started their “forever” journey together.
They love the town and all of it’s boutique restaurants, shops and hidden neighborhood parks– all while being minutes from New York City.
Here they are framed in one of the arches at Columbus Park. I like how the sunlight is peeking through at the corner and how they silhouetted together.
While I love capturing emotion using creative framing, lighting and photography techniques, I also make sure to capture several more classic, traditional portraits of a couple.
I like the intimate, timeless feel of this one.
From Columbus Park, we ubered to Pier C, another Hoboken location that shows a different facet to their personalities and relationship.
While they are both romantics and enjoy European travel, they also enjoy their modern life together.
In contrast to the light romantic airy feel of Columbus Park, Pier C was chic, streamlined and modern. They fit seamlessly in both locations. I have to share that Pier C was one of my most favorite locations ever and that I would love to be back!
The empire state…
Sweet love…
The view of the NYC skyline was absolutely breathtaking from Pier C and we were treated to a nearby sailboat as well as the beginning hints of sunset.
The sun setting in all of its vibrant, golden glory… I love how an orb of light is subtly in the foreground and all of the deep emotion in this image:
Capturing the city skyline at night was something that they had hoped to accomplish. I love how the bokeh in the back of the frame feels so colorful and celebratory, almost like glowing spheres of confetti!
Kristin and Brian shared that they imagine themselves looking back at this time in their lives as a modern “Belle Epoque” for them. I think this next image really captures that sentiment.
Kristin and Brian, I thoroughly enjoyed working with you during your Hoboken Engagement session. I hope that it is as creative, emotionally charged and photographically eclectic as you had hoped.
I am so excited to hear your thoughts! Please feel free to share this link with family, friends and on social media. 🙂
