Soulful Branding Photographer: Kim

💫 Healer, Kim’s, full-day branding session started during golden hour and went all night long! We played with drums, feathers, candles, and prisms, all while exploring the beauty of nature. I’m so honored to be a soulful branding photographer!

I wanted to show healing in a visual way. I used the sunlight against a dark, shadowy background and the way it played on the water to show a healing light.

Why Rhinehart Photography?

Kim shares, “I saw one of Lisa’s pictures on the internet of a happy couple on a gorgeous, starry night. The image was so striking that I thought: Who is that photographer? And I looked her up! On her website, I found a whole collection of beautiful pictures, but, more importantly to me, those pictures captured emotions and shared stories.”

She continues, “I love Lisa’s creativity as a photographer and your talent as a visual storyteller. She is the best soulful branding photographer because she is insightful, innovative, and gifted at capturing moments of authenticity. Some of what I do is difficult to put into words- the pictures will make the concepts more relatable. Pictures also tap into our intuition. Photographs communicate deep meaning.”

When Kim would ring a bowl, it would reverberate and repeat a deep healing sound. I wanted to capture that visually and did all of this in camera!

I wanted to show her self-care and her reliance on nature to keep her grounded and bring her peace.

Creative Elements: Soulful Branding Photography

Kim says, “I don’t have much experience in front of a camera. So, when we met, I was nervous – will I get into the flow of having my picture taken? But Lisa is so friendly, welcoming, and enthusiastic, I naturally got excited and curious about what she had lined up next.

Kim adds, “During the shoot, I had so much fun. After the shoot, I felt seen! I feel confident that Lisa has captured pictures that really show my personality and will tell the story of my brand.”

She continues, “It felt magical to me to throw feathers and to be on the water at night with the candles. I’d describe the creative parts of the session as natural and fluid. I just felt so free to express myself. With the feathers, I’d say I felt downright full of joy. Outside with the candles, wow, what a perfect spot! I felt like something special was unfolding, and I know the pictures themselves will share some cool stories.”

I love to include movements in a photo, and I thought that this GIF was a fun way to bring this photo to life!

The whole session is a collaborative process. I am bringing out different emotions, vibes, and aesthetics for Kim to use throughout the next year for her social media content. She saw this rock beside the parking lot, and I worked it into the session by bringing in some of that golden light to play with her color palette

Meet Kim

Kim shares, “My name is Kim, and I want to help people unlock the magic within themselves in a grounded and safe way. My medicine is the broadening of perspective, the sparking of creativity, and the igniting of rebirth in the context of cosmic connection.”

“I offer services for people who want mentoring to deepen their spiritual practice or explore their own spiritual path. I also offer support to people to get unstuck and put some of the negativity that they’ve lived through behind them.”

She continues, “The bottom line – When I’m leading a guided meditation, I feel like me. I want to offer to other people that sense of being at home within yourself, of living with intention, and of feeling connection. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about growing and expanding.”

I knew she loved the last rock, and I found this one against the water, so I could bring in water and plants and give her an interesting pose. As well as showing off some of her jewelry and nails!

For this one, I really wanted to bring out “surprise”; it could be an offering, a discount, or an insight. I tried to just get a wide variety of images that would save her so much time and her business, so she can really show up and help her clients.

What an amazing, smiling laugh! Against the prettiest view of the mountain. Long Pyne is one of my favorite places to kayak, with some of the most beautiful water. I was so happy to share it with Kim.

Sound Healing: Creating Visuals for the Feeling

Kim explains, “I use my set of Crystal Alchemy Singing Bowls, which are made out of quartz that is blended with different crystals and minerals. The sound of and frequencies from the bowls are heart-opening and nourishing.”

“I’ve noticed that sometimes in energy sessions, people get self-conscious or in their heads and may even start to block the positive energy that is being offered to them. With music, though, I’ve noticed that people relax and get into the flow. It’s an incredible way to deliver healing, transformative energy.”

She continues, “I also love using the drum, which is clearing. Scientific studies support that drumming sessions can help people deal with trauma. I’ve seen people leave my sound healings refreshed and feeling energetically lighter. A recent client said she felt like she’d just had “a massage of her energy field.” I’ve had people tell me that they feel less scared and more hopeful.”

I was thinking soft, smooth, relaxing light, and photographed this image with a very shallow depth of field, and some things obstructing my lens to make it even softer.

Here you can see the sound of the singing bowls… Through the peaceful emotion on her face, the repeating orbs of light in the background, and of course, her reflection, which, if you look closely, you can see four times each one, a little lighter, just like the sound. I did this all in camera without Photoshop!

Incorporating Ukrainian Roots: Soulful Branding Photography

Kim shares, “I am ethnically Ukrainian and Irish. My grandparents came to the United States from Ukraine before my dad was born. I was so close to my grandma. I spent countless hours with her making Ukrainian food. She even inspired me to learn the Ukrainian language.”

“Part of my choosing to be a Shaman relates to my finding out that I come from a line of healers. I’m so lucky to have spent time in Ukraine, and I love that part of the world. My drum is from Ukraine. It was made by a Shaman who lives in Kyiv and got the wood from a tree that grew in the Carpathian Mountains. That’s the area where my grandma’s family was from!”

“I love honoring my Ukrainian ancestors in a way that also sparks. The drum is a tribute to my heritage and honors the unlocking of possibilities.”

Kim explains, “In terms of the Phoenix/Firebird symbol, from out of the ashes, the Phoenix arises to spread its wings and fly. The Phoenix relates to a lot of fire energy, so the ability to shed what is old and unhealthy to embrace the new.“

spiritual branding photo of kim smiling at the camera — While I got a wide variety of emotions, it was very important to me to also get photos that would work well for a profile on social, or about me post, or even a feature on her website.

I love this image so much! I found myself drawn to the 50 mm lines a lot throughout Kim’s session. It really emphasized emotion and gave it in the otherworldly sort of aesthetic.

I had Kim’s needs in mind all throughout her session… I knew she wanted Instagram content (vertical), web content (horizontal), as well as profile pics (square).

Photography with Her Needs in Mind

Kim adds, “Having branding photography tailored to my needs is essential. I’m all about authenticity and truth. I’m not looking for one-size-fits-all pictures. I want pictures that show aspects of my personality, that seem to capture a moment and contain their own energy, and that are welcoming to people. I’m just so impressed with Lisa’s photos. I’m thankful to have found Lisa and greatly appreciate her openness and kindness.

I can envision this working well on a banner for Facebook or even LinkedIn. It’s eye-catching and looks like a painting, almost, only it is actually Kim and her element holding her Ukrainian drum during sunset!

Capturing Motion IN Camera

One of the most challenging yet rewarding aspects of my branding photography sessions is bringing abstract concepts to life.

I wanted to capture motion, soul, spirit, and movement in these photos… I used a light and a slow shutter, prompting Kim to move accordingly.

It captured the movement in such an ethereal way that she almost has wings here.

Chris was assisting me, holding the flash in the woods and pointing it at Kim. I had her dance and drag the shutter so that it would create this look in the camera!

Here I let the flash show, almost capturing a feeling of soul or spirit or transcendence or rebirth… I feel like it would make some of her more abstract concepts really visual, especially when she adds her text!

Soulful Branding Photography: Candlelight

There is something so organic and authentic about candlelight; it’s also incredibly beautiful. We timed the session to coincide with twilight, which would give us a beautiful, blue, glowing sky.

Here, I had Kim change where she held the candle so that it would illuminate her cheekbones, lips, eyes, and sleeves, as well as her golden hair!

I explored the woods until I found the perfect spot. The twilight sky was reflecting in the water, and I couldn’t wait to bring Kim into the shadowy darkness with all of her candles as we were surrounded by silhouetted pine trees.

I love how the blue and yellow juxtaposition work together. I changed up the prompts and moods of the photos, showing different sides of Kim.

I love showing so many natural elements here, the water, the Earth, the fire… I am so excited to see how Kim uses this on her Instagram wall!

I left a lot of empty space in the shot. I thought there was a lot that Kim could probably say about this image. She is a very deep, soulful person, and I like the little bit of light shining in the darkness. It really fits her to me.

Night Session

We had hoped for starry night photos similar to what Hannah and Andrew had experienced during their session with me, photographing the Milky Way. We seemed to be stopped from every turn: during our first attempt, there was a wildfire in *the forest* where we planned to capture the Milky Way. During our second attempt, the sky was cloudy even though we tried a few different locations!

As always, I went with the flow and we worked with some off-camera shots, as that aesthetic is really in right now, and I know she’s looking for eye-catching images that really integrate the beauty and power of nature! I also worked hard to find a place with a little opening in the cloud cover.

The sun had gone down, and the clouds became so thick and heavy, stars barely shown through and the clouds were moving, too!

Again, I thought this could be really cool if she had a meaningful quote or testimonial that she wanted to put on her Facebook or LinkedIn banner. Again, that concept of light in the darkness…

I, of course, formatted it vertically as well to use for a story post, even a profile picture. It’s super cool because it looks like artwork she would have found somewhere, but it’s actually her!

Text overlays

I know how much coaches and healers value having a chance to get ideas out there. Pictures do tell 1000 words, but writing out those words is great too!

I photographed several images like this that would be perfect for a text overlay and totally go with her brand.

Rather than digging through a ton of stock art images, to try to find something really unique that also ” goes with” your brand palette and the rest of the session…

I capture them for you and custom edit them to really bring in your vibe. Here I used water ripples that echo the Phoenix red, midnight blue, and golden colors used throughout the session…

Kim will be able to use these for text overlays and have them look so awesome on her wall. A really unique aesthetic that complements her brand, which will sing on her Instagram wall!
