This athletic, story-driven engagement starts where it all began for Dayna & Nicolai– at Iron Culture Gym. I *loved* going to a location that was so special to them and being a gym engagement photographer!
Why Rhinehart Photography?
Dayna shares, “I searched high and low for you! I really wanted someone who was going to capture the range of emotion rather than force us into poses. I wanted someone who would capture our unique story in places that are special to us. We loved how you let us be us and just added small suggestions occasionally to make moments even better. The way you work with light is amazing!”
Friends at the Gym
They met at Iron Culture, just two people going about their routines. What started as casual conversation turned into a friendship and then something more.
Dayna says, “We met at our gym! We love working out, and we were friends first, but it became more after we spent more time together.”
Nicolai adds, “We first met at our gym, Iron Culture. Here we started as friends and began to create a bond that would inevitably grow into our relationship.”
I snapped the shot in the mirror, if you look closely, you can see it’s just a reflection and that there’s another one in the background…
His Beard!!
Every relationship has that detail—the small, seemingly random thing that started it all. For them? It was his beard.
Nicolai says, “We had to get the beard into the picture because that’s how we first met and how Dayna broke the ice.”
I’m here for it.
These are the details that make a story-driven engagement session stand out. The ones I make sure to feature, so I can preserve that part of your story!
A Story-driven Athletic Engagement Session
From lifting weights to laughing between sets, this part of their session was full of movement, energy, and connection. Exactly what a gym engagement session should feel like.
Dayna shares, “He has this playful energy that brings adventure and fun, but also a really sweet side. I feel warm, happy, and at ease with him.”
They talk about being “lock step,” how often they’re on the same page without even trying. But what makes them work isn’t just similarity, it’s balance.
Different perspectives. Same team. And you can feel that in every frame.
NJ Gym Engagement Photographer
Nicolai smiles, “I first fell in love with Dayna on our first date. I remember her doing this little thing while tasting food… I didn’t even know what it was, but I knew I loved it.”
It’s those small, real moments that matter. The ones that just happen without trying. That’s exactly what I focus on as a NJ gym engagement photographer, capturing your story as it naturally unfolds, in a place that already means something to you.
Nicolai adds, “She’s the first person I’ve ever been around that truly wants to understand me. She goes above and beyond.”
You can see that in the way they interact… easy, connected, and completely themselves. From workouts to laughter in between, this space holds the beginning of their story. And that’s what makes it so meaningful.
Up next, the proposal…
