This vibrant, lighthearted couple’s engagement shoot was simply “a day in the life”– cooking together, hanging out with their cats and taking a walk. Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest impact…
Anne shared, “We contacted you because we love the look of your photos! You manage to capture a wide variety of photographs, from traditional to deeply personal moments authentically. We are hoping that you can capture our sense of humor and love for each other.”
Anne & Dennis lead busy lives! Annie works full-time while also going to graduate school and Dennis has an active legal practice with Schmidt Kramer and often works late.
They have made eating well a priority and subscribe to Sunbasket. Annie shared, “Using a delivery service allows us to eat well without having to put too much prep work into it.”
Cooking together is a great, productive way to spend time together and have a glass of wine while also reaping the tasty rewards…
Their cats were involved in the process– meet Leo, he’s very outgoing, friendly and almost has more of a “dog-like” personality. He approached me from the moment I arrived and was fascinated by my camera bag, and even tried to climb inside, haha!
Dennis shared, “I think that we work well together because we balance each other out-Annie has a unique and empathetic perspective on things and makes me look at things in a different light-I think that she makes me more compassionate.”
Dennis continued, “I love Annie’s sense of humor- I love that after an especially tough work day I can come home and talk and laugh with her, the stresses of the day fade away.”
Ah the other fur baby, it took him a little time, but eventually Milo came out of his shell. They are both such lovely, friendly cats!
I like the stark contrast in this photo, Milo was swiftly moving towards me so I only had a moment to catch him– I love how his whiskers are sharp and pop against the dark background!
Annie shared, “I think Dennis and I work well together because we balance each other out- I can have anxious moments and Dennis is very good at calming me down and helping me work through a problem rather than worry about it all day.
I enjoy capturing a wide variety of photos, especially those that allow me to get creative. I noticed their reflection on the *microwave* of all things, haha! I focused on the reflection and used a shallow depth of field to blur the couple in the foreground to draw attention to their silhouettes…
When we were talking about the session, they asked me if there was anything special that they should make. I said I’d go for something colorful. Yep, this does the trick…
Back to Leo, I love his cat shadow– he seemed amused by it, too. I was hoping he’d move a bit to the right to make it look like his shadow had eyes, hehe…
Annie and Dennis are playful, fun and joke around with each other and laugh a lot!
I love this photograph, as there is so much going on in one frame– from the laughing couple and meandering cat to the light-hearted decor.
For me, it captures this time in their lives so well: vibrant, active, connected, authentic…
Come and get it!!! Yum!!!
Annie & Dennis love their open-concept apartment with high ceilings, natural light and an amazing view of the Susquehanna River.
I was fascinated by Leo and tried to incorporate him into photos whenever possible ;). I also like how you can see their caricatures on the wall framed above the couch, too.
Anne slipped on some red pumps and headed outside…
Anne shared, “One of the things I love about Dennis is his intelligence- I can bring up almost any topic and he’s either pretty well versed on it or he’ll admit that he doesn’t know much about it and by the next week, he’s already read up on it!”
I took a moment to capture a few more traditional portraits of Anne & Dennis. I liked this one because of their smiles…
Their apartment is so cool! It is colorful and right in the center of downtown, so close to all of the festivals and Harrisburg events!
Anne shared, “Our proposal actually happened right in our apartment-Dennis tried to bring the cats over by putting treats down but they were more interested in the treats than the actual proposal or ring!”
He told Annie how much he loved her and that she had given him the best three years of his life- of course Annie said yes and after that they went out to a wine bar near their apartment to celebrate!
Again, loving that pop of red– such a great color! 😉
The color continued as Anne & Dennis walked along Front Street’s Riverfront Park…
Anne shared, “We loved taking photos along the river because we enjoy taking walks by the river when the weather is nice.”
I love how they are surrounded by yellow!
The sun set dramatically over the Susquehanna river. I used the Walnut Street Bridge and flower-lined walk to frame them against the sun’s reflection in the water. I was tickled to see a triangle of light that almost mimics the triangles in the architecture of this downtown Harrisburg icon!
Anne & Dennis, I absolutely loved photographing the two of you and am so excited for your 2018 wedding, just a few blocks away in the Harrisburg Capitol Rotunda! It was such a pleasure to capture you two doing your thing! I hope that these images captured the way this time in your life feels– that they are playful, fun, authentic and personal! Also if you ever need a cat-sitter… 😉
