Central Park in a row boat for two– does it get more romantic than this?
Nicole shared, “I was first introduced to you when I was a bridesmaid in my friend, Stephanie’s wedding. You were so fun and easy to work with and all the photos were absolutely amazing, and I remembered how effortless it felt taking those pictures the day of the wedding. All of us felt relaxed and comfortable, and getting to see the end results made me think of you as soon as Tim and I got engaged. Seeing how you captured the beauty and romance of Steph’s day made her an easy choice when it came to our own wedding.
Tim added, “We chose you for your great reputation of high quality work and your ability to turn a seemingly ordinary scene into something magical.”
Well I don’t know how ordinary this scene is haha, but I think it absolutely is magical. Here I peer through a detail in the bridge as Nicole and Tim try to figure out how to get from point A to B, laughing all the way, haha.
Tim shared, “Central Park was really the perfect place for our engagement photos. While we both work in New York City, and Nicole grew up here, I’m a transplant from Vermont and we also really enjoy being outside together. Central Park intertwines are past with our present and was really the perfect backdrop.”
My first experience here was with my husband, we had seen Hamilton the musical a few years ago when it just came out and went on the row boats in central park as part of that outing. I thought it was super romantic and thought that it would be an ideal spot for an engagement session and Nicole and Tim were the perfect couple for it with their backgrounds.
I love to play with perspective and dramatic light. Here I shot over Nicole and Tim as they passed under me on the bridge…
Nicole agreed with Tim’s sentiments, stating, “Central Park is symbolic of how you can have nature and the city in one place. I love that we’ll have a taste of both in our pictures, because that’s how we live our lives.”
Talk about dramatic light, wowza!!!
Nicole shared, “I first fell for Tim because of how disarming his personality was. Tim was super easy to talk to, and to this day, he’s still one of the most approachable and friendly people I know. It’s an ongoing joke among my friends, that when someone says “Even TIM wouldn’t have liked this person”, it means a lot.
Tim smiled, “I’ll be honest, I’m super excited to see the photos of us on the water with Manhattan and fall foliage in the distance!”
Tim shared, “I knew that I liked Nicole from the very beginning. We met at this Halloween Party and she made her own costume– she was a gumball machine! Looking back I think the costume said so much about her personality. She is fun, creative, ambitious, clever, festive– especially festive you should see Nicole at Christmas… and I love all of those things about her.”
Their first official date included brunch and an NFL game!
Tim shared, “We enjoyed a boozy brunch the next weekend, and watched an NFL game together– the New York Giants played the New England Patriots. I’m amazed to this day at how quickly things came together, but then again, that’s what happens when it just feels right.”
The architecture of the Upper East Side is stunning, here are some more buildings and trees for you, Tim:
Tim continued, “There is something about our chemistry together makes me feel relaxed and at home when I’m with her. I’m really grateful that I’m going to be able to call her my wife about seven months from now.”
I love playing with abstract elements in a frame and think Tim’s expression of pure enthusiasm is also priceless 🙂
Tim laughed, “She’s doing her thing, hahaha! I find it both cute and hilarious and uniquely Nicole. She’ll walk up to me as if she is going to give me a hug, and at the last second she’ll quick unzip my jacket a little and warm her hands inside. IShe loves to be warm and cozy!”
Strike a pose. How about this gorgeous architectural detailing at Bethesda Terrace...
Wild life, in New York City!?! 😉
Tim shared, “As a kid growing up in Vermont I was always drawn to the idea of this city… was it Home Alone, Elf, Stuart Little, I don’t know but this place has always been on my mind. When I see bits of Vermont here, like the Canadian Geese or whatever, it makes me feel even more in my element here.”
Nicole explained, “We chose to wear jeans and more casual clothes for the session, because I wanted our engagement pictures to show us as who we truly are, on a day-to-day basis. Our best times are the times we’re cuddled up on the couch wearing our comfy clothes and laughing, so I wanted our photos to show us in that light.”
I love how soft and intimate this photo feels…
Nicole reminisced, “I distinctly remember our first date, because it was so refreshing. We laughed the whole time. That humor and candor has carried throughout our relationship, into today, and I’m blessed to have a partner that I can talk to about anything.”
Here they were trying to figure out how to work a rowboat for the first time ever in there lives, laughing all the way:
Nicole went on, “Fast forward to the present, Tim and I get along because we have a lot in common, but are also complementary and different in other ways. Our senses of humor are the same but where I can be more sarcastic and cynical, Tim is more innocent and positive.”
She continued, “It is the same way even with more practical things. Tim’s more into working out, while I enjoy healthy cooking and eating. It’s differences like these that make us better together and help us support the other person through tough times.”
Bethesda Terrace is so beautiful!
Reflections are another element that fascinates me– it adds this fantasy element, I think what Tim is referring to as magical, and with the setting sun, I just love this….
While my main focus is to capture moments with my couples, I make sure to capture some more traditional photos as well. Here is one:
I thought Nicole woudl really appreciate this soft, cozy shot– with some sparkle 😉
I thought Tim would like this one through the trees with the beautiful fall foliage:
Nicole shared, “Tim had some transportation challenges with meeting us at the Loeb Boat House, but you would have never known it. He showed up with a big smile on his face, and was eager to get started. He greeted me with a big hug and was right there with me, ready to start.”
The sunset on the water was *unreal*
Nicole continued, “It’s moments like those that make me fall in love with Tim all over again. He is easy to love.”
Nicole and Tim, thank you so much for entrusting me to capture such a special time and place for the two of you! It was such a pleasure to work with you two again and I can’t wait to be a part of your upcoming wedding at The Marigold.
