🥋❤️🥋I love being a creative Philadelphia wedding photographer! Meet black belts, Laura & Will, on the roof of their Philadelphia apartment!! These two met during Jiu-Jitsu, so I was all about incorporating it into their engagement photos! I love couples who are true to themselves and living life out loud!
We had plenty of cute photos in front of the LOVE sign, City Hall, and all of the typical Philly engagement spots, but these are by far my very favorite! Scroll through to the end to see a super creative shot, where they totally look like a human yin-yang symbol to me. ☯️
My dear friend and associate shooter, Jim, photographed this session and I couldn’t be happier with his work. He is a genius with the camera and I’m so happy to have him on my team❤️
Why Rhinehart Photography?
Laura shares, “We chose Lisa because of her fun, creative and colorful shots. When we were looking at her photography, we felt that she was really good at candid photography and capturing a certain level of emotion and authenticity.”
She adds, “Since Lisa already had a wedding booked for our date, she set us up with Jim, her associate photographer. He was wonderful! Jim is definitely methodical yet kind and personable. He is willing to do crazy things like lay on the ground in Philly to capture the perfect shot and have a Jiu-Jitsu shoot on the rooftop with us. We are super awkward but he made us feel really comfortable just being ourselves!”
Creative Philadelphia Wedding Photographer at Broad Street
Laura says, “We live only a few blocks from City Hall, the LOVE Sign, and all the other iconic Philly locations! Will and I actually both have a running route that goes through here. We chose to have our engagement session here since it is really representative of our Philly experience.”
Eclectic Mix of Candids and Portraits
Laura laughs, “We are actually just sitting in some random landscaping that we found along the way. Jim has such a great eye and knows exactly what will make a colorful, cool shot while capturing the emotion and moment. I was so surprised with how cool those green leaf shots turned out.”
Creative Philadelphia Wedding Photographer at LOVE Park
Laura shares, “There is always something going on in Philly and I love that these photos capture that and have a sense of photojournalism to them that capture that.”
She continues, “As for all the dramatic dips and poses, we’ve been taking dance lessons for our wedding and we wanted to show them off!”
Creative Photojournalistic Philadelphia Wedding Photographer
Laura says, “This is our first time really living in the center of a city. We have our little box up in the sky in the heart of Philly. We will be moving to Utah after our wedding so it’s nice to have these images to reflect this chapter of our lives in the city and one of the main reasons we chose to have our engagement session here.”
Meet Violet
Laura smiles, “Violet is such a sweetheart. We adopted her from Morris Animal Refuge. They’re one of the first animal shelters in the United States!”
Check out Violet’s RBF in their family photo, lol!
Their Jiu-Jitsu Story
Laura shares, “Jiu-Jitsu has been a huge part of our lives for four years. We first met when Will was recruiting for the club at MIT. I was just a faceless freshman and he was the president of the club. We became friends and eventually dated 3.5 years later!”
She continues, “We continued with martial arts and when I moved to California for grad school, I started training in yongmudo hapkido. When it was time for my black belt, it was during the height of COVID. We had been doing virtual training or we had to go outside and social distance. Will was actually my Uke, which is the partner that gets thrown around.”
Laura laughs, “I placed a lot of trust in Will throwing me around on the rooftop for these pictures! It’s a 25-foot drop over the railing. It was fun though! This was our first time doing Jiu-Jitsu on our rooftop, usually, we just have drinks or eat up there.”
Laura shares, “Our wedding is super close, so things have been chaotic wedding-wise lately, honestly, we weren’t even ready when Jim showed up for the shoot, but he was great! He really honed in, made us feel comfortable and we had such a fun photoshoot, even amidst the pre-wedding anxiety.”
