A night out on the town— we started at their home (Lofts on George), passed JP’s favorite (the Rupp Building), and I absolutely loved finishing up the evening as a Yorktowne Hotel wedding engagement photographer!
Why Rhinehart Photography?
Stephanie shares, “I’ve always been self-conscious about how I look in photos, I’m not even confident in my selfies. I generally try to avoid being in pictures and get anxious when it is time to be in front of a camera.”
She laughs, “Instead of being critical of how I looked in EVERY picture, with Lisa’s photos, I actually ENJOYED looking at the photos of us instead of critiquing myself.”
JP says, “Steph rarely lets me take pictures of her or us, so having these photos taken by Lisa, was such a treat, and will be something we can cherish forever.”
She continues, “Because I’m not a fan of getting my picture taken, JP and I have few photos together, so this was a great opportunity to capture some really lovely, candid moments. Probably should have had that wine at the start of the photo shoot, haha!”
At Home in Lofts on George
Stephanie shares, “A LOT of renovation went into our suite and there will always be more to come! We both appreciate aesthetics, architecture, and brainstorming ideas to make our home more functional and beautiful. It is very important to us that our home be a place where everyone feels comfortable and warm and that it also includes our cats.”
Chic Engagement in Downtown York City
JP says, “The entirety of our relationship has been in York City. We met when we both lived in the industrial-looking lofts of CODO. We’ve made a place for ourselves here in York City and doing our engagement photos or our wedding in any other place just wouldn’t have felt right.”
Stephanie shares, “I have always felt more at home in a city setting and enjoy the hustle and bustle. I wanted a blend of ‘city chic’ in our photos and weddings in general.”
JP adds, “We feel good dressing up and hitting the town and our engagement shoot was an homage to some of our most memorable dates across the city.”
Let Your Silly Self Shine (for the best photos)
Stephanie shared that she is not a fan of getting her photo taken, like it causes her real anxiety, and JP is fantastic at anticipating Stephanie’s needs, (see “Best Friends” section ;)). As a result, he was playful and downright silly during their session which had her laughing out loud, like this! What a great team!
Rupp Building York City Engagement Photographer
JP jokes, “I’m a mechanical engineer who probably should have been an architect. I love creating things and I got into photography because I often came home from beautiful vacations, and thought ‘my photos just don’t do it justice.’ I love capturing an image that can bring back the feelings of the time in which it was taken.”
He continues, “The Rupp building, in the square, was built in 1892. It is a classic Victorian Building designed by Architect, J.A. Dempwolf. I love the long flat bricks that it is made with and it’s grand arched windows with two-tone brick. Often overlooked are the carvings in the facade. He was responsible for over 500 buildings in Pennsylvania and Maryland, including York’s Iconic Central Market, the Harrisburg State Hospital and buildings at Gettysburg College.”
Yorktowne Hotel Wedding Engagement
The couple shares, “The Yorktowne Hotel is a landmark of the downtown and was recently renovated and restored beautifully. We have visited the lounge and had a lovely New Year’s Eve dinner there. We have also enjoyed the rooftop lounge when the weather is nice. You truly feel like you’ve been transported to a different time or place on the Yorktown Hotel roof!”
Partners and Best Friends
Stephanie smiles, “JP has always instinctively acted out of genuine care, always attempting to anticipate my needs. He’ll always hold a handbag without prompting or help me put on a coat and pull my long hair out of it after it is on. I’ve never asked for those things, he just does them, an unspoken knowing, and doing that is so central to who he is.”
JP shares, “Steph challenges me every day. Her inquisitive outlook on life sparks conversations that can last all night. She has always stood by me and is supportive of everything I do (even the stuff that might annoy her.) I knew from the moment I met her that we were destined to have an enduring friendship. We feel lucky that our partner is also our best friend.”
Yorktowne Hotel Wedding View
Stephanie and JP say, “We loved adventuring with you and taking photos on the hotel roof. We believe the building we could see well from the Yorktowne Hotel roof is York Pennsylvania’s original county courthouse.”
The Sweetest: “YOU fit Here!”
My favorite shot is the second one. It’s kind of an “out-take” but I think it speaks volumes about his character and their relationship. She was shivering and he was like, there is room for you here and let her inside of his coat!
City Lights in Downtown York
The couple shares, “We’ve been through some things that most couples might not survive together, and even though at times we struggle, we also lean on one another knowing that no one else in the world would understand.”
