A skydiving proposal, sweet pup & breathtaking view from the “top of the world”….
Christine & Jon are driven, active & adventurous– they have demanding DC careers and try to make the most of their free time together, whether it is crossing things off their bucket list (like skydiving– more about that later!!!) or spending time hiking with their dog, Remy.
Remy acts like a little person (just check out her posing for the photo above) she mumble-grunts to communicate and is totally Christine & Jon’s baby. Here she is taking Christine & Jon for a walk, hahaha. I used a slow shutter speed so you could really see the motion of it all. 😉
It was interesting talking to Christine & John about what they wanted to see in their photos– Christine likes soft, romantic images that show emotion, while Jon prefers creative images that use interesting techniques and are visually artistic– he loves to see silhouettes, bright, bold colors, motion, etc.
They were drawn to my work because of the variety of unique, personalized images and my ability to give them a good mix and balance of their favorite photography styles.
Christine & Jon said it was easy to fall in love…
Jon described Christine as nurturing, funny, smart, hard-working, beautiful and as someone who “goes with the flow”. Jon said that she always makes him laugh or smile and is consistently the best part of his day. She is very driven in her own life and so supportive and motivating in his. He couldn’t ask for more.
Christine described Jon as strong, caring, loyal, thoughtful and she said with his military/police academy background he tends to be more of a planner. He remembers the little things and makes sure to show how much he cares, leaving her sweet notes if their work schedules prevent them from seeing each other.
When they started their relationship they were long-distance (300 miles apart) but they both just “knew it was right”. They said they realize it sounds cliche, but has been totally true for them. I love the bright blue of a sky here:
They live in DC together now, but were up for going anywhere for engagement photos. I love to hike with my family here and knew it would be a great fit for them, and be the perfect outdoorsy, woodsy spot with a breathtaking view to give a nod to their skydiving proposal and have nice flat areas for Remy, too.
The proposal, here is where their story gets really interesting…
Jon was nervous picking out an engagement ring for Christine because she would show them a wide variety of rings that she liked different aspects of and said she wanted it to be vintage and modern while being completely unique and original– a pretty tall order, haha.
Though what he chose was absolutely perfect…
Skydiving…
Christine & Jon made a bucket list together about 6 months into their relationship, they included skydiving on the list. It’s the type of thing you can say you want to do, but it’s completely different actually going and doing it, haha.
The day of skydiving she joked with him about proposing and actually pretended to feel his pockets for a ring (she had no idea and didn’t feel a the ring though this made Jon super nervous, lol).
As they were harnessed in and flying thousands of feet above the Ocean in a small plane, having Jon propose was the last thing on Christine’s mind. They both jumped and were free falling over the ocean when Christine saw a big white sign come into view…
Christine was like, “how weird that they advertise here” then as the sign came into plain view, she could see it said “Christine, will you marry me?” She totally freaked out, but in a good way, she was SHOCKED and THRILLED.
Here are the T-shirts they got from skydiving:
Looking back over how far they have come together is still surreal for both of them, but they believe that together they can conquer anything 🙂 These two are fearless in every way and really took a leap for each other hehe… Christine & Jon, it has been such a pleasure to work with you, we clicked right from the beginning and it was incredible to see engagement photography concept come together. I can’t wait for your wedding! –Lisa
