Dry ice, test tubes, a diamond and two of the sweetest scientists you’ll ever meet…
Andrea & Ross shared, “We chose Lisa as our photographer because we fell in love with her photography style – the colors, the angles, and the unique aspects she brings into each photo. We were also so impressed with how well she could capture the love between the couples, which showed us that people felt comfortable with her.”
They continued, “After we had our engagement session with her, we knew how she was able to do that – her genuine warmth in tandem with her excellent eye for photos makes for a super fun and comfortable session. We felt we could be ourselves with her and that is definitely captured in these photos.”
They explained, “We met during a 3 week research collaboration for our doctoral degrees in Biology. We wanted our location to reflect where we met, in a lab! Labs aren’t the most photogenic places, but we totally trusted Lisa Rhinehart’s passion and excellent technical skills to make it work!”
I LOVE capturing couples’ interests and stories and was so psyched for their engagement session. They pulled out all the stops– lab coats, beakers, even dry ice– we had a blast!
They shared, “We loved that you worked both inside and outside of the lab, so we had this great mix of unique science-y shots and super romantic photos, too!”
Here is one just outside of the lab, the sun was just peeking through so perfectly and these two were so sweet together. I showed them the shot on the back of my camera and they were like, what the heck, you can do THIS in a parking lot?!? They were just both so positive and kind…
They shared, “We appreciated how you went above and beyond to get the perfect shot and were ready for any challenge. You were so enthusiastic and totally up for playing around with the different scientific components like dry ice and test tubes to create unique photo opportunities for us.”
I like to get creative and play with different elements, for this shot I wanted to bring in a little bit of a geometric pattern and created one using test tube racks. It was tricky to line things up just right in camera, but I wanted to show off Andrea’s beaming smile and diamond engagement ring.
Ross shared, “Opposites attract, and I would like to think this is also how we work so well together. What I mean is that she is the reasonable to my craziness, the city to my country, or the excited to my calm personality. We are a perfect balance for one another in the larger spectrum, but at the same time have so much in common for the simple things like staying in on the weekends or going to Chipotle after a long day of work. We get each other, while at the same time make each other our best possible version. We have each others backs, no matter what and she is undoubtedly my best friend.”
While I enjoy creative shots, I also make sure to get several more traditional shots as well. This was one of my favorites, look at those smiles!
Andrea shared, “It’s so funny! When we first met, even though neither of us said anything to each other, we felt we had a strong connection. The following weeks after I left and returned to Canada, Ross would call me to ‘ask me a science question’, but I would quickly realize that he already knew the answers to his questions, and was just using science as an excuse to talk to me!”
Ross explained, “Andrea by far has the most brilliant mind of anyone I know; and at the same time is so loving, caring and compassionate. She helps me in so many ways, whether it is with my scientific work in the lab or at home painting a wall for the first time, she is always readily and eagerly willing to help out! One of my favorite traits about her is, time after time, when we go to new places and meet new people , everyone is taken away by how friendly she is, and genuine warmth.”
I loved how this couple was up for anything during their session, dry ice: sure, hang out in a parking lot: ok, here they are just in the hallway of the lab, but I noticed this cool light and fun reflection and thought that their body language speaks volumes about their connection…
What a romantic proposal!!!
Andrea shared, “Ross and I were long distance from Canada to Alabama (1000 miles!) for 2.5 years, so it often resulted in us not being able to see each other for weeks at a time. One ordinary morning, my family and I were at a beautiful vineyard in Niagara falls and we decided to take a wine tour. When we were at the last stop of the tour, I walked into the barrel house which was filled with red roses and candles everywhere. Unexpectedly, out of the corner of my eye, I could see a figure walking towards us. When I realized that it was Ross, holding a ring box in his hands slowly walking towards me, I started bawling.”
She continued, “He completely surprised me!! As if that wasn’t enough, he said ‘someone else is here too’. Out from behind him was his entire family – parents, brother and sister-in-law, and our nephew- who all flew in with Ross from the US to be there to celebrate this moment. In front of both of our families, he asked me the easiest question I ever had to answer. I couldn’t believe how much planning had gone into this and how both of our families kept the secret for months to keep it a surprise! It was the best proposal and the perfect beginning to our forever.”
Andrea shared, “When I am with Ross, I am in a permanent smile and state of happiness. He makes me feel surrounded by love, support and joy, as if I was wrapped up in a warm blanket of love all the time. He is constantly making me laugh, and can lift me out of ‘bad day blues’ with just one look. I just love how he is so smart and charming, and yet so down to earth and humble. Words cannot aptly describe how truly blessed I feel to share the rest of our lives. To know that I have someone that will protect and love me as fiercely as I will for them is the most incredible feeling. He is my heart.”
Hehe, I like this one how Ross is pouring the dry ice from the beaker and it almost seems to gather right around her heart…
So the session was almost over, we were literally driving home, when I put on my four ways and pulled over… Ross pulled over, opened his door with this super worried look, and I was like THIS SUNSET IS AMAZING, WE NEED ONE MORE SHOT!!!
I climbed in this field and Ross lifted up Andrea and it was perfect :).
Andrea & Ross, Thanks so much for entrusting me with capturing this special time in your life! I’m super excited to hear what you think of these and cannot wait for your Omni Bedford Springs wedding next fall!
